The Ptolomaic temple of Philae in Aswan. The Ptolomies were descandants of Ptolomy, the leader of Alexander the Great's army. After Alexander's death, Ptolomy ruled Egypt. The Ptolomies adopted Pharaonic traditions and customs, and presented themselves to the Egyptians as Pharaohs.
